This study assessed the hospital surge capacity for COVID-19 in Kenya. It looked at the capacity of the Kenyan health system in terms of general hospital beds, ICU beds, oxygen, and ventilators under different transmission scenarios.

This study is applying a resilience lens to assess the preparedness and response to COVID-19 in Kenya and South Africa. The study is in collaboration with the University of Cape Town in South Africa, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and is funded by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

This study is assessing the impact of COVID-19 on health financing, public finance management and LMIC quest to achieve UHC. The study will also assess how health financing and public finance management systems adaptations impacted on the COVID-19 response. This study will be conducted in Kenya, Uganda, and Burkina Faso in partnership with THINKWELL, Makerere School of Public Health, and RESADE in Burkina Faso.

This study aims to assess the level and determinants of vaccine hesitancy using both quantitative and qualitative methods. In collaboration with the Population council, we will assess vaccine hesitancy among population cohorts in 4 counties in Kenya and among health workers and carry out qualitative data collection to understand the how’s and why’s of vaccine hesitancy for COVID-19 vaccine in Kenya.

This study aims to examine the deployment of the COVID-19 vaccine. The study will adapt the process evaluation methodology to assess the implementation of the vaccine in Kenya to assess how the design and implementation of the deployment plan influenced access to COVID-19 vaccines.

This study aims to create a better understanding of the preparedness and response to the COVID19 epidemic by private retail pharmacies in Kenya. In collaboration with the pharmaceutical society of Kenya (PSK), the study will assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pharmacy operations, COVID-19-related products and services being delivered in pharmacies, infection prevention during service provision, pharmacy preparedness and resilience, and provider suggestions and recommendations on how to improve the response.

This study aims is to assess the feasibility of pharmacy-based COVID-19 testing in Kenya, including willingness to pay; service uptake; cost of the service; provider and client views and experiences; and the utility of digital technology in ensuring test accuracy, supporting linkage to care, reporting of cases to the ministry of health, and facilitating payment of provider incentives. The study is funded by the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) and is a collaboration with Maisha Meds, a health technology and data analytics organization, and the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics.
